and the scoutmaster failed to appear.

And we were a bit concerned.

And eventually summed up the courage to go to the common room – a smoke-fugged place

which – we never went near

suggested we went and looked in ‘The Valley of Rocks’.

So sure enough,

sprinted off

to ‘The Valley of Rocks’, which was a big trench

I suppose about fifty feet deep

in the woods

Quite dangerous!

And

um

Definitely out of bounds.

We went off there

I think I went first along the valley floor

two others went along the top of the valley

and suddenly there was a shout from one of the observers on top!

‘There’s a body!’

And sure enough very rapidly we came across the hapless Mr Hughes covered in blood and clearly severely injured.

Or was he?

This was in fact a clever ruse.
